Description
Description
Lotus Pose is a cross-legged sitting pose, in which each foot is placed on the opposite thigh. It is a seated pose widely used for meditation practice. The pose helps to stretch the knees, ankles, and hips; and strengthens the spine and calms the mind.
Preparations for the pose include knee and ankle stretches, hip-opening poses such as butterfly pose.
If the back cannot be erected, begin sitting on a block with a simple crossed-legged position. Palms can be placed in front of the chest in a prayer pose or on the knees with different mudras for different benefits. For variations, practise half lotus, bound lotus, lifting lotus, lotus in inversions.
